Bush's Instinct

On Meet the Press this Sunday Tim Russert pulled out some old school George W. Bush footage. Russert showed the clip from June 16, 2001 of President Bush answering a question on whether Russian president Vladimir Putin was trustworthy."I looked the man in the eye, I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul; he's a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country." -- George W. BushThe footage is a rather interesting example of President Bush's style, how he makes decisions. He relies strongly on his instincts when dealing with problems, or in this case Vladimir Putin. When he met Vladimir he needed to get a sense of his soul, the cut of his jib.Was it during lunch, on that warm summer day, when George locked eyes with Vladimir and peered into his soul? How long did their eyes remained locked before George knew that he was staring into the eyes of a man he could trust. Was it ten seconds? Perhaps a full thirty seconds? It must have been a magical moment.
